Chick-Fil-A- The First To Franchise In Heaven

With all the crap surrounding Chick-fil-a I had to say something because I have been a christian for a really long time, I think its been about 20 years (if you read my blog it might not seem like it tho). I was so taken back by what CFA did because I have always wanted to run a huge and successful business because it seems like a lot of fun. But when you use your business and your religious affiliations to jump into the political arena pretending its for Gods greater good, come on only the very simple are going to fall for this (I’m feeling a little sick just writing about it).

First I am christian and I am not coming to the defense of gay marriage because I don’t care. Legalize it don’t legalize it I’m not going to marry a man so it really doesn’t affect me at all. I don’t understand why you wouldn’t want gay people to get married, they’re not trying to stop straight marriage because it has nothing to do with them. Not allowing gay marriage isn’t going to get rid of gay people you freakin uptight political butt holes that don’t know how to understand what you read.

WWJD…. Remember that? If you actually read your bible you might notice that Jesus got angry a lot but then you might notice that it was never at the people he considered sick. He considered people hypocrites when they knew the word but didn’t bother to think critically about it and apply it. Next you’ll notice something else, Jesus never got involved in “politics.” “Render unto Caesar that which is Caesars,” does that sound familiar? He told Pilate that “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above.” Sounds to me like just because you’re under their authority doesn’t mean that they are the supreme authority. Just because I follow your laws doesn’t mean that they mean anything. Allow or don’t allow gay marriage but being christian and standing against gay people makes you as bad as the people that stand outside of the abortion clinic…. And if you agree with doing that too answer me 1 question, how many kids have you adopted?

I personally think this is CFA attempt at getting a franchise into heaven, nice try but I don’t think that’s how corporations work. People know that my favorite topic is religion so when CFA did this they were talking to me like I would be proud of “christian values.” After about 10 seconds of my counter arguments they quickly dropped the subject. It makes me sick.

The way of the future in business is niche business, CFA just has a head start now. Its actually really smart from a business perspective because as any business owner knows the only thing more important than advertising your brand is brand loyalty and boy have they bought themselves a lot of it with this move. It angers me so much when people cant see manipulation when its right under their nose. Yea they will lose money with the boycott but what they lose will comeback to them because people that agree with them and ate there occasionally will now eat there much more often. Who needs the Muppets when you have just bought the kind of brand loyalty that only comes with religion. MAKES ME SICK!

What Goes Around Comes Around Apple

Apple is taking Samsung to court with allegations that they have stolen the design of the Iphone. Ummmmm…… I’m not the smartest man on this planet but what exactly is Apple pissed about? Correct me if I am wrong but isn’t the foundation of apple based on the idea that they stole the idea of the graphic user interface from Xerox and never really gave credit where credit was due. Isn’t that what is happening here?

I always think things like this are funny because for just a quick history lesson on the beginning of Apple all you have to do is watch the movie Pirates of Silicon Valley. Apple was always fighting the power, looking at the large corporations that ran the computer industry and trying to figure out a way to beat them at their own game or maybe even create a whole new game. And they did it, to the surprise of everyone, but what they did not anticipate is that they would become the “Man” themselves. Apple has had so many innovations over the last few decades and now that they are the power, it looks like someone else is coming in to pirate from them….. Seems fair to me.

Even beyond all of this, the fact that Apple would stoop to this level now can lead you to come to only one conclusion, Apple is losing money. You can only get a giants attention if you can make them feel that you’re there. The other phone isn’t exactly brand new, its been out for a while so why now? My personal opinion is that Steve Jobs isn’t around to stop the greedy money grubbers do what greedy money grubbers do and that’s grub money. I expect to see a lot of changes coming to Apple under the guise of trying to stay competitive or “its what Steve Jobs would have wanted.”

Hello Kitty Has An Airline?

Am I the last one to find this out? Did you know this, why didn’t you tell me? Don’t worry I’m not mad. But now that we both know lets make fun of it!

I don’t understand why you would want an airplane with Hello Kitty on the side. I don’t know if they know but I don’t think this is an area where little kids have any say with their parents. “Mommy, Daddy can we please go on the Hello Kitty airplane because I know what you really want is to be locked in a giant metal tube flying through the air at 300 mph with kids everywhere bouncing off the walls, right?

Well I guess if you think about it the market you’re excluding by making a Hello Kitty airline is much smaller than the people included like children, little girls, former little girls, and the plain ol girly.

So maybe I’m just being a stupid guy when the only market left out is men….. Maybe my feelings are hurt. Maybe by creating such a fun looking thing for everyone but the male market makes me feel left out a little. Maybe I think Marvel should start their own airlines. I would feel safe in the air if I were riding with Wolverine.

Dam you Hello Kitty for letting me know these things are possible.

Business Inspirations- Charles “Mask” Lewis -“Simply Believe”

“The fact that your mind is limited, doesn’t limit me.”

There is one guy that I have seen that wasn’t out to make money with motivation, not directly. One of my favorite quotes of his is “Let it be said that I encouraged people to encourage.” These words from Mask were revolutionary for me because I come from a world of spite. Its easier not to care and take all the malicious things someone says as motivation follow your dreams and throw it back in those peoples faces, like that fat guy at the gym that keeps repeating to himself, “I’ll show her.”

“I’m only here so you can be better than you thought you could be.” This one hit me to my core. I have never known this man and yet he is one of the biggest inspirations of my life. I know he was about his business but most people will just sponsor a fighter because they believe in them as a fighter not as a person. Mask was always promoting growth for all people around him.

The way this man carried himself and his business really makes you believe him and in yourself. He never knew me but he taught me so much through example that spite will never get you as far as belief will. Not even a belief that you can be successful but that its possible to enjoy your life and do what you want to do. “As long as your relationship minded and not accomplishment minded”

“Watch out for the lonely dreamer, for he can change the world."

“Just ‘cause you weren’t born with a Silver spoon in your mouth doesn’t mean you can’t turn your roads to Gold.”

Rest In Peace Charles "MASK" Lewis 1963-2009

Business Woes

Starting a business is a bumpy road. The payoff is totally worth the struggle but the struggle can be disheartening. We’ve been talking a while now, so I think we’re friends and as a friend I’m going to tell you whats been on my mind lately. Quitting! I’m not going to but it has been on my mind a lot lately. So far I have had almost no sales, views on my items are dropping from almost nothing to nothing. I find myself where a lot of people find themselves when undertaking a venture of this sort, up against our very first business hurdle. I understand why people quit and I pass no judgment. Starting an online business is hard, but I believe I will get through this. I have put everything on the line for this, failure is not an option at this point (that sounds so cliché but its true). I need to put a positive spin on things like, I have not failed I have succeeded in finding what doesn’t work. Boy have I succeeded in that so far. I need a strategy, something to keep me looking forward( to be successful it’s the only way to move). The good thing that has happened out of all of this is that it has angered me. Anger is a fuel I use to keep me motivated, moving and very determined to get what I want. All those easy money people are full of crap! No money worth having is going to come without work, I would not appreciate the journey without some pitfalls. This has helped a lot, thanks readers for letting me vent to you… your such great listeners.

Business as Art

Art and business, two very opposing sides ideals, or are they. The ideals of each are never thought of in any form of balance, there is no yin and yang here, its more like positive and negative. Lets take a look at both and see if there is anything that can be done about this. First lets talk about art.

The bohemian heart is something else, living through your art, enjoying life and the only rules are beauty, truth and love. Living with passion is something everyone at one time or another wishes they could enjoy, finding true love is the dream of many, and being true to yourself is the only way to be happy. The life of a bohemian artist is letting passion lead the way and using feeling and inspiration to paint the masterpiece of your life. What a great thought, unrealistic but a great thought.

Business on the other hand is cold and calculating. It is ruled by logic and reason, a laboratory sterile of feeling. A successful business man is believed to be just the same usually devoid of any likeable personality. A cold machine programmed to for one purpose and one purpose only, profit. Profit is the only god of the business entity and values it over anything else. With the prophet of profit as the financial statement bringing the gospel of the bottom line. A little research will show that the god of business also demands human sacrifice for the glory of the bottom line. One word, despicable.

In the eyes of the law a corporation is a separate entity, like a person, so I think the solution to the unrealistic expectations of the bohemian life and the emotionless corporation is to bring two polar opposites together to create something like what a corporation is under the law, a feeling person. If the bohemian ideals are fused with the logic and reason of business you don’t get a sell out artist or the lazy guy at the office, you get a business with human needs at the forefront. I believe business can be another form for an artist to express his/herself. Fusing the two allows the artist to create a new entity with truth and love at its heart but also prepared for the harsh realities we all confront but doing it at the expense of no one. It allows the artist to create but it also makes the world a better place, isn’t that what all artist really strive for in the first place.
